Art & Creative Expression

Alongside her distinguished career in retirement security and public policy, Anna Rappaport has pursued a second lifelong passion: making art. Her creative practice offers a vivid counterbalance to her analytical work, allowing her to explore the world through color, texture, story, and movement.

Anna is an avid Urban Sketcher, and much of her work begins with simply observing the world around her. She paints and sketches city streets, dancers in motion, flowers, skylines, gardens, underwater scenes, and abstract forms inspired by daily life. Her goal is to evoke feelings—an impression, a rhythm, a moment that resonates-encouraging viewers to feel connected to the scenes she captures.

Her Process & Materials

Anna works primarily on paper, using a wide range of mixed media. Her techniques include:

  • Urban sketching
  • Watercolor and ink drawing
  • Collage with torn or cut pieces from her own art
  • Found materials such as maps, photos, cardboard, and documents
  • Oil pastels, spatter techniques, and layered textures

Storytelling is central to her process, even when the work leans abstract. Shapes, patterns, and color become tools for expressing movement, memory, and atmosphere. She continues to expand her artistic practice with energy and joy, participating actively in Urban Sketching communities.

Anna has collaborated with Jamie Hagenberger, and her work has been exhibited in notable venues like the Admiral at the Lake in 2024, showcasing her evolving artistic voice and community recognition.

A Journey Through the Decades
